The Root Of Jesse

We will look at Yeshua as a shoot and a branch, also as High Priest. We will also see Him as our Passover Lamb. We will first start with Isaiah 11:1: "Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit." To make sure you understand what is being said here. We will look at vese 10, in this same chapter. "Then in that day the nations will resort to the root of Jesse, who will stand as a signal for the peoples; and His resting place will be glorious." For those who do not know Jesse was the father of King David.

We will let Paul tell us about the root of Jesse. "Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God. For I say that Christ has become a servent to the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers, and for the Gentiles to glorify God for His mercy; as it is written, Therefore I will give praise to you among the Gentiles, and I will sing to Your name. Again he says, Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people. And again, Praise the Lord all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples praise Him. Again Isaiah says, There shall come the root of Jesse, and He who arises to rule over the Gentiles, In Him shall the Gentiles hope." (Romans 15:7-12)

"A light of revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel." (Luke 2:32) Again we need to understand God has always had a set time for prophecy to be fulfilled. Today Gentiles do not half to convert to become God's people. We now have Yeshua, we are complete in Him. This gives us all the blessings and promises, given through Abraham. Remember we do not become Israel, we become a part of Israel. We have now become one in the Messiah, Jew and Gentile. Again I say the Jewish people do not join us and then become Gentiles. As Yeshua and Paul said, the gospel is to go to the Jew first, then the Gentiles. When we can understand the role of Israel, we will then understand our Messiah. Remember we can only understand God's word, when we let God speak for Himself.

"But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God". (2 Peter 1:20-21) " But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be maligned; and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgement from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep." (2 Peter 2:1-4).

False doctrine of any type is harmful for all believers when it comes to God's word. With all the false teachings of today, it becomes very confussing, as one searches for truth. Very few Christians today cannot actually tell you what the Bible teaches. They depend on their pastors to tell them about God, if there pastor is wrong. Then what they learn from there pastor will also be wrong. When you stand before your judge, on judgement day, You will give an account for any false doctrine that you have believed that has lead someone astray. What will you say? I went to Church every Sunday, and listened to my pastor. I watched Christian shows and the history channel so I could learn truth. What would God say to you? You did not read and study my word that I have given you. Instead you listened to men who made you feel good, with no truth to my word. When you were told truth you closed your ears, and would not listen to truth.

God has given us His Word, from start to finish, so you cannot say you were not told. So what would you find if you read the Old Testament, from Genesis to Malachi. First of all you will see all the prophecies for Jesus. Next you will learn about God the Father, and how He wants you to live. Next you will learn what prophecies, have been fulfilled , and prophecies waiting to be fulfilled. Let us use Revelation as an example, this book is quoted from the Old Testament at least 350 times. We find these quotes from Isaiah through all the prophets, you want to understand Revelation then read the Old Testament. Remember the Old Testament is the New Tesament concealed; the New Tetament is the Old Testament revealed. The Holy Spirit helps us to find truth, Let Him help you understand God's word. That would be from Genesis to Revelation.

We know from scripture that Jesus is called the stem and the root of Jesse. He also is called the branch, such as the High Priest. "On exactly the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement; it shall be a holy convocation for you, and you shall humble your souls and present an offering by the fire to the Lord, You shall not do any work on this day, for it is a day of atonement, to make atonement on your behalf before the Lord your God." (Leviticus 23:27-28) This feast is called Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). This was the one and only day of the year that the High Priest entered the "Holy of Holies" to make atonement for the nation of Israel.

We know the sacrifice of animals every year, did not save them. Why? Only the Promised Messiah could save the Old Testament Saints. "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." (John 1:29) Our redemption rest on the Messiah, without His blood, we can never be saved. Just as the blood of animales covered the Old Tesament saints, while they waited for the promised Messiah. We today do not half to sacrifice animals. We have Jesus our one and only sacrafice, to take away the sins of the world.

Next we will look at Jesus as our Sacrifical Lamb. First we will look at Isaiah 53:2;"For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of parched ground; He was no statly form or majesty that we should look upon Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him." We need to understand Jesus came the first time, as a suffering Servent. He was the sacrifical Lamb of God, to shed His blood for the Salvation of the world. "He was oppressed and He was afflicated, Yet He did not open His mouth; like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, so He did not open His mouth." (Isaiah 53:7) "Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this He was led as a sheep to slaughter; and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He does not open His mouth. In humiliation His judgement was taken away; Who will relate His generation? For His life is removed from the earth." (Acts 8:32-33)

When Yeshua was placed upon the cross to shed His blood, as the lamb of God, and was resurrected three days later. Two things changed, the first was the sacrifice of animals. Yeshua became our Passover Lamb, being sacrificed, for the sins of the world. No longer would animals be sacrificed for the sins of mankind. He now became the sacrifical Lamb for the whole world, a one time sacrifice. If you do not find Salvation in this sacrificed lamb, it will make no difference if you are Jew or Gentile. You will not be saved! We all half to come through the blood of the Messiah, for through His blood we receive our Redemption.

The book of Hebrews is a very interesting book. Scholars are devided on who wrote Hebrews, most believe Paul wrote Hebrews. From this book one can fully understand who Jesus is. We need to take a good look at Hebrews 9:27-28; "And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die, once and after this comes judgement, so Christ also, having been offered once to bear sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him." This is why it is so important to understand our Passover Lamb. How do I know He is our Passover Lamb? Paul says he is in 1 Corinthians 5:7;"Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed."

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fagrant aroma." (Ephesians 5:1-2; Exdous 29:18-25) "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people, and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of David His servant." (Luke 1:68-69) Just as the Old Testament saints waited for the promised Messiah. We wait for the full promise of our redemption, at His second coming. If you have never read the book of Hebrews hopefully you will do so now.

The second thing to change would be the High Priest, and the priesthood. We just seen how the Messiah become our sacrificed lamb, now will look at Jesus our High Priest. To understand Jesus as High Priest, we need to look at Genesis and Hebrews. "Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High. He blessed him and said, Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; And blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand, he give him a tenth of all. (Genesis 14:18-20)

"God is known in Judah; His name is great in Israel. His tabernacle is in Salem; His dwelling place also is in Zion." (Psalm 76:1-2) "God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.( Hebrews 1:1-2) "Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God." (Hebrews 3:12)

"Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weakness, but one who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." ( Hebrews 4:14-16) "This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek" (Hebrews 6:19-20.

Next we will look at Hebrews 7:1-27: Notice the writter of this book tells us about Melchizedek. We know he is the king of Salem, and the priest of the most High God. In verse two, we find the translation of the name Melchizedek. king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace. Verse three tells us; "Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually." Verse 21-22; "The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind, You are a priest forever, so much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant." Next we will look at verses 25-27; "Therefore He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, seperated from sinners and exalted above the heavens; who does not need daily, like those high priest, to offer up sacrifices, first for his own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself."

Do you see why I keep saying the Old Testament, has all the prophecies, of the promised Messiah. You notice Melchizedek is all the way back in Genesis chapter fourteen. Why is that important? During the time of this high priest, there was no priesthood, no temple to worship in. Today we have the Sacrificed Lamb of God, to take away our sins. He stands before God as our High Priest. This is why it is so important to understand all of the New Covenant scriptures.

Here we will go through Jewish history to help us understand Jesus as a Jew. First of all we will look at Yeshua as our Rabbi, the greatest Rabbi who ever lived. In John 1:49; Nathanael calls Jesus a Rabbi, he also tells us He is the Son of God, and King of Israel." Next we will look at John 20:16; "Jesus said to her, Mary! she turned and said to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni! (which means teacher). From scripture we know Yeshua was a Rabbi. I have heard so many Christians talk about the lost years of Yeshua. The reason we do not understand, is most Christians never study Jewish culture. At age five Yeshua would start to learn Torah daily under a Rabbi. At age twelve He would have memorized all five books of the Torah. Luke 2:42; tells us when Yeshua was twelve He went up to Jerusalem with His parents. Verses 46-47;"Then, after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers , both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers." Scripture tells us this was during the feast of Passover. (Luke 2:41)

Yeshua would have been doing the same thing, as all other boys His age, would have been doing. He would have learned the trade of his father, as well as the Torah.. Here is what took place in Yeshua's life during his time on earth. He was circumcised on the eigth day. He kept the Sabbath Day and attended the synagogue. He kept all the feast of the Lord, including Feast of Dedication (John 10:22). Yeshua never broke His Father's Torah, to do so would make Him a false messiah. Yeshua was of the tribe of Judah, He died a Jew and will return as a Jew. He would have looked no different then other Jewish man.

To become a Torah teacher such as Rabbi, you started learning at age thirteen. Here is what Yeshua was required to learn to become a Torah teacher. First He had to memorize all the five books of Moses, next the prophets, Isaiah to Malachi, and the writings from Joshua to the Song of Salomon. When one studies Rabbi Hillel, you see how close Yeshus was to His teachings. Luke 2:40; "The Child continued to grow and become strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him," Instead of reading scripture as we do today. They would tell the scriptures, as Yeshua did so many times with parables At age thirty Yeshua became a Rabbi, and choose His disciples, So now you know the lost years of Jesus. We have so many myths about Jesus today, no wonder we do not know what to believe. We listen to myths, but we do not listen to God' words. So sad for those who say they know the Lord. Yet they never have time to study His word. He is our Passover Lamb, and our High Priest outside of Him there is no salvation.

Isaiah 1:18; "Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord, though your sins are as scarlet, they will be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool." In the writings of the Rabbis from 30 A.D. to 70 A.D. we find a lot about Messiah and the Temple. During Yom Kippur (Day of Atonment) a red cloth was put on the temple door. When it turned white they knew God had forgiven their sins, for that year. So what happened after Yeshua died. After the death of Yeshua the cloth remained red, God no longer excepted their animale sacrifices. Without the blood of the sacrificed Lamb of God, there could be no salvation for the nation of Israel. We know theTemple was destroyed in (70 A.D).

Unless we as Christians realize our Jewish brothers and sisters, also need to be saved through Yeshua. Unless somone loves them enough to tell them about their Jewish Messiah. They may never be saved. This breaks my heart, are they not as important as the nations. Can we not have as much love for them, as we do for the nations. Some of us are not able to witness to the nation of Israel. Our prayers can be just as strong as witnessing. Pray tonight for your brothers and sisters. After all the Messiah loved His people enough to die for them. Should we not love them as much as our Messiah did.

Many years ago I read an article, and here is what was said. We should not live according to the Ten commandments or any other Old Testament mandate. What was said here is no more then a slap in God's face! This would be my answer to the person who made this statment. God's Commandments and moral laws for living today, is just as important as it was for the Old Testament saints. When we throw away the Ten Commandment and God's Moral Laws. What happened? People moved away from God's word, and open the door for Satan to rule.

We now live in a wold that says everything is ok. Yes the Old Testament was a shadow picture of the coming Messiah. Here is what Paul said; "Do not be deceived; bad company corrupts good morals. Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame." 1Corinthians 15:33-34)

"Therefore the law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith." (Galatians 3:24) Who is our tutor? No other then the Old Tesament,! How will we know sin, or God's moral laws for living? If we do not go back to school and learn about sin and moral living. As Paul said in Philippians 2:12; "Work out your salvation with fear and trembling." Here is what Jesus said in John 5:19;"Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner."

" But we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liers and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted." (1Timothy 1:8).

What did Paul just tell us? Paul tells us the law is not made for a righteous person, the law is for those who are lawless and rebellious. Do I believe you can be saved by keeping the law. No! On the other hand if I was reading the moral laws of the Old Testament, that taught me how to live and walk righteous before God. Then I said I don't half to keep these laws anymore, after all I am under grace and saved by Jesus. Now I can live my life just like the unbelievers around me and still be saved. How sad for any Christian who says God's commandments is not for today.

Yeshua lived and taught the Old Testament. He also explained the full meaning of the Ten Commandments. You could say the New Testament writings is about a Son who was just like His Father. Yeshua will be the fulfilmment of all Old Testament prophecies. Did He complete all of the Old Testament prophecies? No! There is still Old Testament prophecies, waiting to be fullfilled by Jesus. Remember the new completes the old and the old completes new.

As you can see I do not follow a Gentile Messiah. So, who do I follow? I follow a Jewish Messiah, and the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Yes, I am Messianic. Why? Each day I follow and walk with a Jewish Messiah. Would I convert to Judasim? No! To do so would cause me to lose the Messiah. If God had wanted me to be Jewish I would have been born a Jew. As a Gentile I am grafted into the olive tree. "So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citzens with the saints, and are of God's household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone" (Ephesians 2:19-20). We are now both Jew and Gentile and part of the Kingdom of God.

Since Yeshua, the apostles and all of the first believers were Jewish. There was only two places of worship the synagogue and the temple. There was no Church of any kind. If you were a Gentile coming into the faith you would worship in the synagogue along with these first New Testament believers. There was no such thing as Sunday worship, they all worshiped on Saturday. Made no difference if you were Jew or Gentile. Yeshua and the apostles all taught from the Old Testament. Why? Because there was no New Testament writen yet. Every word that Jesus and the apostles taught came staight from the Old Testament.

"For Moses from ancient gererations has in every city those who preach him, since he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath" (Acts 15:21). We ask the question what is James talking about? This is what is called the Jerusalem council. In this council we have James, Peter, Paul, Barnabas and a number of Jewish men. Why were they having this council? They were trying to decide what to do with all the Gentiles who were excepting Jesus as their Messiah. First James says we will teach them to abstain from idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood. Then they would learn in the synagogue since Moses was taught every Sabbath. You cannot change God's word, His words will always stand true. Today the Jewish people have the same problem since the Gentiles are coming back into their Hebraic Roots of our faith. There is Messianic congregations all over the world including Israel, where Jew and Gentile are worshiping together as one in the Messiah. When you stand on true doctrine of God's word, there is no room for false doctrine.

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. May His name always receive Praise and Glory. I will end here with Paul's prayer from the Complete Jewish Bible. "For this reason, I fall on my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth receives its character. I pray that from the treasures of His glory He will empower you with inner strength by His Spirit, so that the Messiah may live in your hearts through your trusting. Also I pray that you will be rooted and founded in love, so that you, with all God's people, will be given strength to grasp the breadth, length, height and depth of the Messiah's love, yes, to know it, even though it is beyond all knowing, so that you will be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who by His power working in us is able to do far beyond anything we can ask or imagine, to Him be the glory in the Messianic Community and in the Messiah Yeshua from generations to generation forever. Amen." ( Ephesians 3:14-21
